A downtown hydro vault fire wreaked havoc on the city’s transit system on Tuesday morning, shutting down several routes and forcing delays and diversions on others.

The fire began underground on Richmond near Church streets around 2 a.m. No one was injured and the power did not seem to be affected in that area. However, it had an impact on the TTC.

There was no subway service between Bloor and Osgoode stations. The 501 (Queen), 504 (King), 505 (Dundas), and 509 (Harbourfront) streetcars were also affected. Shuttle buses were running.

Shuttle buses were brought in after the subway was shut down on March 1, 2016. CITYNEWS/Bertram Dandy.
