Police are investigating after disturbing graffiti was discovered at two schools in Markham on Sunday evening.

York regional police inspector Al Almeida told 680 NEWS the graffiti appeared overnight at William Armstrong Public School and at Markham District High School.

“There was mainly anti-Semitic, KKK type messages at William Armstrong and then at the high school it was more racial slurs,” he said.

The school board was notified and the offensive graffiti at Markham District High School has been removed. Some graffiti still remains on a slide at the William Armstrong Public School playground. It is unclear if the two incidents are related.

Police officers are canvassing the area and are looking for any available surveillance footage.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477
