5 things to do this weekend: Circus festival, Pan Am Path & potluck wedding

Christine Chubb | posted Friday, May 15th, 2015

In our weekly series, we look at events happening in Toronto for a variety of ages and interests. This week, we have a variety of events ranging from taking in some acrobatics, craft beer celebrations and a public wedding.

May 15 – 18

Toronto International Circus Festival

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, step right up this long weekend and be dazzled by a showcase of acrobats, daredevils and much, much more at the Toronto International Circus Festival! And it’ll be all PG because this annual, free event at Harbourfront Centre is aimed at kids under 12. From Saturday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tocircusfestival.com.

Pan Am Path Art Relay Launch Event

Bring your bike and cycle with three-time Olympic medalist Curt Harnett on Saturday at the launch of the Pan Am Path Art Relay Launch. Get to know nature by learning about birds, bugs and reptiles with folks from the ROM or take part in outdoor arts and crafts event. Bring your boots cause it could get mucky. The Pan Am Path is a multi-use trail that will give you a picturesque view of our great city through 84 kilometres of trails. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Panampath.org.

Queen Victoria’s Secret

Queen Victoria would approve if you celebrated her day by enjoying tasty craft beer and cider at the Evergreen Brick Works. The annual Queen Victoria’s Secret event is an all-ages, family friendly event and admission is free! Monday, noon to 5 p.m. at the Holcim Gallery and Koerner Gardens areas of the Evergreen Brick Works. Brewersbackyard.com.

Big Ideas

Take in some culture this long weekend at the Alumnae Theatre for Big Ideas. The event will host staged readings of works-in-progress from the award-winning writers of the New Play Development group on topics such as losing one’s virginity, the sometimes dysfunctional relationship between therapist and patients and the road to self acceptance. Tuesday to Sunday. No reservations, PWYC.Alumnaetheatre.com.

Marczyk + Marichka’s potluck Wedding

Celebrate the love of two Marczyk + Marichka — two people you probably don’t know — at their folking, potluck, park wedding. “We’re getting married in the heart of a city we call home… the place we fell in love, the place we planned our future,” the couple posted on their Facebook page. And everyone’s invited! There will be music, there will be dancing and it’ll probably let you one-up most of your co-workers’ long weekend stories. Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dufferin Grove Park. More information can be found on their Facebook Page.
