Rogers experiencing widespread network outage

News Staff | posted Monday, Jul 8th, 2019

Rogers is experiencing widespread network outages.

The network problems began on Sunday afternoon.

Users in several parts of the country are reporting problems with making wireless calls in some areas, with landlines also affected. Text messages, internet and data services are still active.

Rogers’ website confirms “some customers may be intermittently experiencing dropped calls or are unable to place or receive calls on their mobile phone or wireless home phone service.”

Toronto police Const. Katrina Arrogante tells CityNews 9-1-1 calls have also been dropped due to the outage. For such calls, police were sent to the address as a precaution.

London, Ontario police also tweeted that they were experiencing problems.

In a statement. Michelle Kelly, Director of Communications at Rogers says:

“Some of our wireless customers may experience an intermittent interruption to voice services. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and our teams are working hard to address the interruption as quickly as possible.”

The service interruption may intermittently affect some customers using 2G and 3G networks on Rogers, Fido and Chatr.

The problem is described as nationwide, but it is not clear how many customers have been affected and when the issue will be resolved.

Rogers is the parent company of CityNews and 680 NEWS.
