A 19-year-old man rushed to hospital after a crash on Highway 407 last week has died.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt tweeted on Thursday the man had died as a result of his injuries.

Police were called to the collision in a westbound lane of the highway, just past Pine Valley shortly after 7 p.m. last Thursday.

Schmidt says a sedan was travelling westbound when it broke down in a live lane of traffic. Soon after, it was rear ended by another vehicle, pushing it forward and critically injuring the driver.

He was taken to a trauma centre with critical injuries. The male driver of the other vehicle was uninjured and remained on scene.

Schmidt says the investigation is still ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage of the incident is asked to contact police.
