A 19-month-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle in Mississauga.

Peel police were called to the scene at Confederation Parkway and Paisley Boulevard just before 5:30 p.m.

The incident appears to have occurred in the parking lot of an apartment building and involved a delivery truck.

Const. Sarah Patten says the driver involved transported the mother of the child and the victim to a nearby hospital. The driver is cooperating with investigators.

Police had originally said the victim was a girl, but have since made a correction.

Roads in the area are closed as police investigate. A secondary scene was set up at the hospital by investigators.

Editors note: a previous version of this story said the victim was a 19-month-old girl, but police have since corrected that and have said it was boy.
